Earlier this month, SYZYGY Global was extremely honored to be awarded a 2022 Aurora Award from the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA). The Silver Award recognized SYZYGY for the Best Commercial Project Under 20,000 square feet for our design of the luxurious porte cochere walkway at the coveted Admiral’s Cove Country Club in Jupiter, Florida.
Since 1979, the FHBA, an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), has reviewed hundreds of project submissions each year for its annual Aurora Awards. Project submissions range from massive commercial projects to individual room designs. Projects come from all over the American South, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and the Eastern Caribbean. The 2022 competition was curated by a jury of three acclaimed designers and builders evaluating nearly 400 entries.
The massive porte cochere for Admiral’s Cove Country Club was part of a multi-million-dollar renovation of the entire club. As one of the premiere private communities in Florida, Admiral’s Cove needed a grand entrance appointed with modern style to welcome the club’s professional golfer, business magnate, and politicians to the property. SYZYGY designed and installed a sprawling 13-zone pergola system that wove through the pathways connecting the arrival portico to the spa and wellness center. To elevate the design, SYZYGY featured numerous custom angled pergola zones that changed elevation through the courtyard. The eye-catching pergola was seamlessly integrated with the club’s external color schemes with all white pergola support columns and frames, and custom wood grain powder coated louvers. Stretching 1,274 square feet, the porte cochere walkway allowed members and their guests to arrive at the club shielded from the afternoon sun and routine rain showers that frequent South Florida.

For its Aurora Award-winning porte cochere design, the SYZYGY team relied on the supremacy of the Azenco R-Blade Pergola. The adjustable louvered roof pergola features motorized louvers that adjust to manage shade and promote cooling airflow, yet close tightly to block out the rain. Laid out in single extrusion aluminum panels, the R-Blade has no visible external hardware and a hidden internal gutter system to ensure clean exterior lines and an uninterrupted eyeline along the pergola roof.
