As an Azenco partner we are also able to tap into the decades of experience the company has to offer. Over the past two decades, Azenco and its founder, Charles Chapus, have approached engineering and design challenges from a unique perspective. To Charles, no project is impossible, he just hasn’t invented the solution yet. Well, his 30 patents ranging from never-before-seen mounting brackets to unique pool enclosures tell the story of his innovative approach. One of Charles’ standout designs was a one-off gigantic telescopic pool enclosure which Azenco produced for the luxury campground, Yelloh Village, in Laroche-Posay, France.
The owners of the campground were looking for a way to bolster their off-season appeal to guests, and the solution was to create the opportunity to swim year-round even through the harsh winter. Yelloh Village had worked with the Azenco Group on a previously-installed pool enclosure, but this project was to be massive. To ensure the glamping guests could access an open-air pool facility when the weather broke, the owners challenged Azenco to create something truly unique.
The Yelloh Village project held some other unique challenges as well. The footprint for the pool enclosure was ridiculously massive at 4050 sq. ft. The pool enclosure would also need to protect two separate pools and several water slides, so the structure needed to soar to multiple stories. Also, with surrounding structures closely abutting the pool area, the design needed to squeeze between an existing building and the park’s wide shallow wading pool.
To satisfy these demands, Azenco designers leveraged one of Charles’ patented telescopic pool enclosure designs. As you can see in the pictures, the structure ultimately combined a static two-story aluminum and glass structure over the water slides with four telescoping motorized glass sections making up the majority of the building. Along the base of each panel sliding window panes open to create some fresh air flow for the space when the roof is closed. For a wonderful final aesthetic touch, the team clad the telescoping frame in a bronze powder coating that makes the architectural structure really pop against the lush countryside.
